Our Story

Welcome to Small Plates. Now celebrating our 11th year, Small Plates has been providing Detroit and her visitors a dining experience unlike any other in the city. Under new ownership, Small Plates will continue to serve an unparalleled level of diverse dining adventures, while maintaining the identity of our loyal patrons and this great city.

In Greece they have Mezze. In Spain they call it Tapas. In China they have Dim Sum. Italy has Antipasti. And in America, we have Small Plates- a uniquely communal dining experience where the only thing more stimulating than the culinary collision of flavors in our signature dishes is the company of those around you. Unbound by the limitations of regional flavor or color, Small Plates offers the palette a selection of cuisine as diverse as the city itself. Small Plates is a place for friends, a place for family, a place for Detroit.

Small Plates is witnessing the rebirth of Detroit and rising alongside, featuring all new menu items, signature cocktails, as well as an enhanced décor and improved overall dining experience. Building upon our rich tradition of excellence, including awards from Wine Enthusiast (Best New Restaurants in the United States), Bon Appetit (Best of the Year), and Hour Magazine (Best of Detroit), we aim to maintain our rightful place as one of this city’s premier dining destinations.

Small Plates was the first restaurant of its kind in the United States and still possesses the federal trademark to our name and concept. Small Plates seeks not only to serve our native Detroit, but also to carry exceptional cuisine and the spirit of this great city across the nation.

Demonstrating excellence in untapped culinary genres and reinventing ourselves along the way, Small Plates has never lost our vision of where we’ve come from or where we’re going. Our revival is a testament to the unconquerable spirit of our community and the people who made Small Plates what it is today. So come in. Break bread with us and share in the renaissance of Detroit and look forward in anticipation of our great future.

Enjoy!
